My journey into landscaping began at the age of 10, tending to gardens and learning the intricate dance of flora and fauna. I had the privilege of learning from the renowned Texas horticulture legend, Neil Sperry, who calls McKinney, TX home. Under his mentorship, I honed my skills and developed a deep-rooted passion for designing perennial gardens and landscapes that harmonize with the natural patterns of our environment.
Most sods used in Texas lawns are naturally adapted to climates with high rainfall, requiring significant water usage during our hot, dry summers.
By law (SB 198), HOAs in Texas can't prevent you from replacing your water-sucking sods with drought-resistant landscaping. We'll work with your HOA to get this approved.
My childhood memories are woven with the sights of hummingbirds fluttering around salvia greggii, anole lizards finding sanctuary in our yard, and the joy of rescuing baby wildlife amidst native plants and trees.
The catalyst for founding TX Natives came from witnessing the indiscriminate planting practices of suburban developers, often opting for generic choices that lacked the richness of native biodiversity. This motivated me to launch TX Natives with a clear mission: to reduce the time, effort, and water homeowners expend on their yards while enhancing biodiversity, color, and year-round enjoyment.
I'm committed to educating both lifelong Texans and newcomers alike on the unique challenges and beauty of our state's diversity of soils, sporadic weather patterns, and relentless heat. Native Texan plants and other well-adapted perennials were built to thrive in these environments, giving us plenty of choices to make your yard stand out amongst a sea of boring, water-sucking lawns.
Through TX Natives, I aim to equip homeowners with the knowledge and tools needed to transform their landscapes into thriving, sustainable havens that reflect the true essence of Texas.
Join me in the journey of cultivating Texas natives and discovering the magic that lies within our own backyards.
